Holiday Recipe: Sausage Walnut Stuffing

Whitney's Holiday Sausage Walnut Stuffing Recipe

One of our Ivy City Founders, Whitney Smith, shared with us one of her very favorite holiday recipes! Whitney told us that her mother-in-law makes it every year & it’s the ALL-TIME holiday favorite!! Each year it’s the one thing that never ends up with leftovers! She says this recipe actually comes from her husband's grandma who passed away this last year. They especially love having a piece of her making her recipes during the holidays. The Smith family loves this recipe, and you will too!

SAUSAGE WALNUT STUFFING BY WHIT'S GRANDMA BASSETT

Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 1 hour

STUFFING INGREDIENTS
1 C butter
1 C minced onion
1 tsp poultry seasoning
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/3 C chopped parsley
3/4 C chopped celery
1/2 lb. pork sausage
3 quarts soft & stale bread
1 C chopped walnuts

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Melt butter in skillet. Add onion, seasonings, parsley, & celery
    2. Cook for about 5 minutes.
    3. In a separate pan, cook pork sausage + drain off fat.
    4. Cube the bread, then add ingredients (plus walnuts)

    NOTES
Whitney says that she was taught to make a foil "package" (using heavy-duty foil or 2 thickness) leaving a little air space in the package as you fold up the middle + ends. Put in oven alongside turkey for an hour or more to heat through!
